Advocacy

The MECPA staff and Board of Governors work with our lobbyists to promote the Society’s legislative agenda. You are “key” to our success in Augusta and can get involved in several ways. Here’s how.

  • Legislative Agenda

The MECPA monitors hundreds of bills currently before the Maine Legislature. Some have a direct impact on you, your profession, your practice, or your clients. To help you become more informed of the legislative process, learn about the bills we are currently tracking.

  • Contact Your Legislator

There are more than 2,000 bills filed each year in Maine and state legislators cannot be knowledgeable about each of them. You can serve as a valuable resource to help your Senator or Representative understand financial issues. Further, your legislators are elected to represent you and need to hear your views on upcoming legislation. Keep tabs on the legislative agenda and contact your legislators when hot issues arise.

  • Become a Key Person

Our Key Persons are the most important part of a grassroots legislative effort. Our Key Persons recognize that individuals can and do make a difference in the legislative process and they help us build relationships with legislators.
