CPE Credit

MECPA programs qualify for credit toward the Maine Board of Accountancy's continuing education requirement. Credit is given only for the actual classroom hours attended by a participant.

The MECPA reserves the right to verify attendance at any time during its programs and will grant credit only for that portion of the course for which the attendee is present. For this purpose, fifty (50) minutes of class equals one (1) hour of CPE credit (professional education shall be credited in full hours only).

In order to receive CPE credit, each attendee must sign in at registration and submit a completed evaluation form at the conclusion of the course.

CPE credit slips will be will be emailed to participants within one week from the date of the course. If you find it necessary to leave a course early, notify the MECPA on-site representative. It is permissible to claim less than the total number of credit hours offered by a course. Individuals who do not complete these forms will receive zero CPE hours for the program.

Register Early

Help avoid class cancellations! All registrations should be received by the MECPA at least 10 business days prior to the course date. A $50 admin fee will be assessed if the registration is received within 3 business days of the course. If a sufficient number of registrations have not been received, the course will be cancelled. You will be offered the chance to transfer to another class or receive a refund.

To guarantee a place in the course, all registrations must be accompanied by full payment. The MECPA accepts checks, Visa, and MasterCard.

Member/Nonmember Status

In order to qualify for the member fee, participants must be members of the MECPA. Members of other state CPA societies who are not otherwise eligible for membership in the MECPA may qualify for the member fee. Nonmember fees apply to all other registrations.

Payment Methods

You may pay by check, Visa, or MasterCard. Credit card payments may be faxed to (207-883-6211), or submitted online. Payment must be made when registering for courses.

Registration Procedure

Registrations can be made by mail, fax or online. The MECPA CPE Catalog and CPE flyers contain registration forms that can be photocopied and mailed or faxed to the MECPA. Registrations can be made online here.

Registrations submitted by email or fax within one business day of the course date, do not guarantee a reservation in the class. Walk-in registrations are welcome on a space-available basis only. A walk-in fee of $50 will be applied to all walk-in registrations.

Three to five days after your registration is received by the MECPA, you will be e-mailed a confirmation letter confirming correct program dates, class hours, and location. Please check the information carefully. If you have not received your confirmation letter before the program, contact the MECPA to verify registration.

The MECPA reserves the right to cancel a class for insufficient enrollment. If your class is cancelled, we will notify you at least five (5) days before the scheduled date and refund your course fee. You have the option to transfer your fee to another class. Please allow at least 14 days for refund processing.

Cancellations/Substitutions/Refunds

  • To receive a full refund, cancellations must be made 10 business days prior to the presentation date. There is a $50 charge if cancellation is received less than 10 business days.
  • No refund will be issued for cancellations received within one business day of the presentation.
  • No refund will be made in the case of a no show registrant.
  • Substitute registrants are only allowed with 48 hours prior notification to the Society.
  • Substitutions among members are welcome at any time with no administration charge; however, non-member substitutes must pay the non-member course fee.

Accommodations

The MECPA office will be happy to provide you with information about lodging nearest the course site. Room reservations should be made directly with the hotel as early as possible and all related charges are the responsibility of the individual.

Travel Disclaimer

The Maine Society of CPAs does not assume responsibility for related travel, hotel, or any other expenses of those attending society-sponsored programs. Contact the MSCPA to determine the likelihood of cancellation prior to making travel arrangements.

Class Hours

Eight-hour programs run 8:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m., with registration beginning at 8:00 a.m. Four-hour programs vary. Please check each class for the times. Your seat and program materials will be held for 15 minutes after class begins.

Late Arrival

Your seat and program materials will be held for 15 minutes after class begins. If you arrive later, you may attend the class and will receive any related material at the earliest possible date after the program. Also, your CPE attendance verification form will be altered to reflect actual hours attended.

CPE Credit and Attendance Verification

Each course lists the hours of total credit received for attendance at that course. In the event you arrive late or leave early, your certificate will be altered to reflect the change. A CPE attendance verification form will be distributed for all attendees to sign. The Maine Society of CPAs can only verify your attendance if you have signed this form.

Cell Phones

Cell phone ringers must be turned off upon entering the classroom. If you must talk on your cell phone, please leave the classroom.

Attire

Appropriate business or business casual attire is suggested. Remember, there are 2 basic temperatures in hotel meeting rooms: too hot or too cold. Dress in layers!

Inclement Weather

Should the weather warrant any concern for your travel safety or if you want to verify that this event/meeting is going to be held as scheduled, please call (207) 761-0925 for a recorded message after 6:30 a.m. Do not call the facility.

Special Needs

Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) If you have a disability that may impact on your participation, please notify the MECPA office. Your written notification should be received two (2) weeks prior to a given CPE session. Someone from our staff will contact you prior to the CPE session to discuss accommodations.

Program Materials Policies

MECPA and other program developers design materials specifically for live course usage and are available only to participants attending the program. The materials or portions thereof are not otherwise available for sale to individuals or educational institutions. No one may reproduce seminar materials in any way. Please observe the developer's copyright protection.
