Maine's very own Tracy Harding, the Auditing Standards Board (ASB) Chair and AICPA Chief Auditor will discuss recently issued standards for audits and attestation engagements. The discussion will also include the ASB's active agendas including ongoing efforts to modernize auditing and attestation standards, enhance ASB outreach to stakeholders regarding proposed standards and post-implementation reviews of issued standards. This session will feature a discussion of the current status of the ASB's projects to: Revise the quality control standards, revise the risk assessment standard, make narrow revisions to auditor communications regarding NOCLAR, and converge efforts on group audits.

Kate, a Pierce Atwood partner,  will discuss practical management and best practices in handling the new proposed standards regarding suspected non-compliance and fraud when a client is changing auditors and addressing the ethical implications.

Tracy is the Principal-in-Charge of Berry Dunn's Bangor Office and coordinator for the firm's Financial Services Group and the Director of Quality Assurance. Tracy.has become a known expert as an independent concurring partner reviewer on many audits, for both public and nonpublic companies. He has served on the committee that drafted the State of Maine's Uniform Accounting and Auditing Practices for Community Agencies (MAAP III) regulations. He currently serves on the Maine Board of Accountancy, and as Chair for the AICPA's Auditing Standard's Board.

Hamann, Kathleen

Kathleen Hamann is a partner in the DC and Boston offices of Pierce Atwood LLP and head of the Government Investigations and Compliance Group. Trained in both international and criminal law, Ms. Hamann is an internationally recognized authority in the field of transnational criminal and compliance law. She joined Pierce Atwood with almost two decades of federal service experience as a prosecutor at the United States Department of Justice and a negotiator on issues of transnational crime for the Department of State. At the Department of Justice, she prosecuted complex financial crimes, including accounting fraud, bribery, money laundering, and sanctions violations, often in close coordination with the SEC, FinCEN, and the City of London Police.
Kate assists companies and individuals with internal and external investigations of civil and criminal matters involving all forms of financial crime. She has acted as a compliance monitor and conducted investigations, negotiatied settlements, and defended companies in litigation. She also designs and implements global compliance and training programs, conducts risk assessments and compliance audits, and does pre-acquisition due diligence and post-acquisition remediation for multinational companies. . Kate redesigned the Department of Justice’s comprehensive compliance program requirements for corporate financial crimes, and has advised the World Bank, APEC, and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.
Ms. Hamann is an expert advisor and active participant in the APEC Business Ethics Initiative since its inception in 2010 and designed it's Leadership in Ethics and Integrity Program in 2019.
