1040 WORKSHOP FOR MORE EXPERIENCED PREPARERS is a 1-day seminar (8 credits) led by Peter Birkholz, EA, MST. Topics include a forms oriented discussion of the changes made by the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act in areas such as the reduction in individual income tax rates, increase in the standard deduction, and suspension of the deduction for personal exemptions; enhancement of child tax credit and new family tax credit; up to 20% section 199A deduction for qualified business income; modification of deduction for home mortgage interest, SALT, casualty losses, and charitable contributions; repeal of miscellaneous itemized deductions; reduction in floor for deduction of medical expenses; suspension of deduction for moving expenses and the exclusion of qualified moving expense reimbursements; repeal of special rule permitting recharacterization of IRA contributions to a ROTH; expansion of section 179 expensing; 100% bonus depreciation for property acquired and placed in service after 09/27/17; treatment of leasehold improvement property; modification of depreciation limits for luxury autos; small business accounting method reform and simplification; modification of the deduction for net operating losses, entertainment, etc. expenses, and business interest; and more.
