CPAs and accountants have an important part to play in the state's economic future, given their role as expert advisors to Maine businesses, individuals and taxpayers. Join us to hear from members of Governor Mills Economic Recovery Committee, who will share information about their work and the Committee's recommendations. Governor Mills created the Economic Recovery Committee in Spring 2020, engaging economic experts and industry representatives from across Maine to develop specific policy recommendations to stabilize the state’s economy and build a bridge to future prosperity in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Leaders:

Burke, Bill

Bill Burke is Chairman of the Maine Health Board of Trustees and the Owner/Chairman of the Portland Sea Dogs. He is also a member of the Board of Dead River Company. Bill, a graduate of Harvard Business School has an extensive managment and consulting background. He has dabbled in media, having produced one film and co-authored a biography of Ted Turner.

Corbett, Susan

Ms. Corbett is a preeminent authority on rural broadband deployment and works closely with economic development and rural organizations to advance internet and wireless technologies and their adoption.

In the fall of 2017, Ms. Corbett launched the National Digital Equity Center, a program of the Axiom Education & Training Center, collaborating with local and global change makers, relentlessly driving disruptive strategies to close the digital divide in Maine and across the United States. Ms. Corbett is the Director of the National Digital Equity Center.

Ms. Corbett serves as a consultant of the Axiom Education & Training Center, (AETC) a 501c3 non-profit corporation, with a mission dedicated to furthering the life-long educational and professional development of residents and businesses in Washington County and Maine.

Ms. Corbett is the former Chief Executive Officer of Axiom Technologies, a provider and advocate of fast, affordable, and reliable broadband services for rural communities. In 2005, Ms. Corbett joined Axiom Technologies as Chief Financial Officer.

Ms. Corbett is a public speaker, educator, and advocate who is dedicated to providing broadband access and digital literacy to rural communities everywhere.

LaChance, Laurie

: A native of Dover-Foxcroft, Maine, Laurie Lachance is Thomas College’s 5th President and the first female and alumna to lead the College in its 126-year history. From 2004-2012, Laurie served as President and CEO of the Maine Development Foundation. Prior to MDF, Laurie served three governors as the Maine State Economist.

Connors, Dana

Dana Connors has served as President of the Maine State Chamber of Commerce for more than 20 years, overseeing the Chamber’s broad range of activities: advocacy efforts, economic development initiatives, workforce development opportunities, on behalf of the state’s business community.

Mr. Connors began his career as the city manager of Presque Isle for 16 years, and then spent 11 years as commissioner of the Maine Department of Transportation.

A Maine native, Mr. Connors received a bachelor’s degree in public management from the University of MaineHe has been appointed by the Governor to serve on the Northern New England Passenger Rail Authority and the State of Maine Governor’s Business Roundtable for Early Childhood Development. Other boards on which he currently serves include the Maine Economic Research Institute; Maine Manufacturing Extension Partnership; and Maine & Company.

Mr. Connors has received numerous awards for his service and leadership to the state of Maine throughout his career.
